The short version

The writing application remains free. A subscription pays for connected services, not ownership of your work. Your content remains yours, you should keep independent backups, and you must use QuireCraft lawfully and without harming other people or the service.

01

The agreement

These terms form an agreement between you and Raymond Mckaig, trading as QuireCraft, when you create an account, buy a subscription or use QuireCraft’s connected services. If you use only the free local application, the sections concerning the application, your work, acceptable use, availability and liability still apply.

You must be at least 18 years old to buy a subscription. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms and make any purchase for you.

The Privacy Notice explains how personal information is handled. The cancellation policy shown before purchase and in your account forms part of these terms.

02

The free application

QuireCraft gives you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use the application for lawful personal or professional creative work. Writing, organising, designing, previewing, backing up and exporting remain available without a subscription.

You may use your exported work commercially. You may not copy or redistribute QuireCraft itself, sell access to it, attempt to obtain its source code except where law expressly permits, bypass access or security controls, or use it to build or operate a competing hosted service.

The QuireCraft name, application, website, design and original software are protected by intellectual-property law. These terms do not transfer those rights to you.

03

Accounts and security

You must provide accurate account information, keep your sign-in details confidential and tell QuireCraft promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless it results from QuireCraft’s failure to use reasonable care.

An account is personal to you and may not be sold, shared as a public login or used to misrepresent another person. QuireCraft may ask you to verify your identity or email address when needed to protect the account or respond to a request.

04

Subscriptions, payment and cancellation

What a subscription provides

A subscription adds the connected benefits described when you buy it, including multi-device cloud sync and subscriber community features. Monthly and annual plans provide the same benefits for different billing periods.

Prices and renewal

The price, billing period, introductory offer and renewal price are shown before checkout. Prices include applicable UK VAT where it is chargeable. Stripe processes payment. Unless you cancel, the subscription renews automatically at the displayed renewal price using the saved payment method.

Cancel at any time

You can cancel through Manage billing in your QuireCraft account. Cancellation stops the next automatic payment. Paid benefits continue until the end of the billing period already paid for, and no automatic refund is issued merely because you cancel before that date.

Cooling-off period and refunds

You may request a full refund during the first 14 days after initially subscribing. Annual renewals have a further 14-day period in which you may request a refund. Monthly renewal payments are normally non-refundable once the new period begins, except where required by law or where QuireCraft agrees a refund is appropriate. If a refund is issued, paid benefits may end when it is processed.

After paid benefits end

The free application and projects stored on your devices remain available. Cloud sync and other paid benefits stop. Existing cloud project data is retained for 90 days, allowing time to resubscribe or recover your work, and QuireCraft will warn you before eligible cloud data is removed.

Nothing in these terms limits statutory cancellation, refund or consumer rights.

05

Your work remains yours

You keep ownership of manuscripts, notes, research, images and other content you create or import. You give QuireCraft only the limited permission needed to store, copy, transmit, format and display that content to provide features you request, such as cloud sync, preview, export, support or community publication.

You confirm that you have the rights needed to use content you add and that doing so does not infringe another person’s rights or break the law. QuireCraft does not claim publishing, adaptation or commercial rights in private project content.

Keep independent backups. Manuscripts can be irreplaceable. Export backups regularly and keep them somewhere separate from the device and browser you use for QuireCraft.
06

Community and acceptable use

Feature requests, comments and images submitted to community areas may be seen by other users. You retain ownership but give QuireCraft a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to host, reproduce and display them for operating, moderating and preserving the community discussion.

You must not use QuireCraft to:

  • publish unlawful, threatening, abusive, discriminatory, deliberately deceptive or privacy-invasive material;
  • infringe intellectual-property or other rights;
  • upload malware, probe security, disrupt the service or place an unreasonable load on it;
  • harass others, impersonate someone or collect information about users without permission; or
  • send spam or use automated access that QuireCraft has not authorised.

QuireCraft may remove or restrict public material where reasonably necessary to enforce these rules, protect people or comply with law. Where appropriate, an explanation and opportunity to respond will be provided.

07

Availability, maintenance and changes

QuireCraft is under active development. Reasonable care will be taken to keep connected services secure and available, but uninterrupted or error-free operation cannot be guaranteed. Maintenance, provider failures, security incidents and circumstances outside reasonable control may cause temporary interruption.

Features may be corrected, improved, replaced or withdrawn. QuireCraft will avoid removing core free writing and export capabilities without good reason and will give reasonable notice of material changes to paid benefits where practicable.

If subscription terms or prices materially change, the change will be explained before it affects a future payment. You may cancel before the next renewal.

08

Responsibility and liability

QuireCraft will provide paid services with reasonable care and skill and digital content must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality where UK consumer law requires it. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded.

QuireCraft is not responsible for loss caused by your failure to keep backups, clearing browser storage, forgotten credentials, incompatible third-party software, misuse of the service or events outside reasonable control, except to the extent QuireCraft caused or contributed to the loss.

QuireCraft is not liable for business losses where you use the service as a consumer. If you use QuireCraft wholly or mainly for business purposes, QuireCraft is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, revenue, opportunity, goodwill or anticipated savings. For business use, total liability arising from the service is limited to the subscription fees you paid in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

No limitation applies to liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or anything else that cannot legally be limited.

09

Ending use or an account

You can stop using the free application at any time. You can cancel a subscription without deleting your account. To request account deletion, contact support@quirecraft.co.uk after exporting anything you want to keep.

QuireCraft may suspend connected services or close an account where there is a serious or repeated breach of these terms, non-payment, a security threat or a legal requirement. Except where immediate action is reasonably necessary, QuireCraft will explain the issue and give you a reasonable opportunity to resolve it.

Ending an account does not remove provisions which by their nature continue, including ownership, necessary content permissions, payment obligations, liability limits and dispute terms. Public community contributions may be retained or anonymised to preserve existing discussions.

10

General terms and contact

Changes to these terms

QuireCraft may update these terms to reflect service, legal or security changes. Material changes will be highlighted in the application or by email where appropriate. Changes will not retrospectively remove rights already accrued.

Transfer and enforceability

You may not transfer this agreement without written permission. QuireCraft may transfer it as part of a sale or reorganisation provided this does not reduce your rights. If a court finds one provision unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue. A delay in enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you keep the protection of mandatory laws that apply there and may bring proceedings in your local courts. Otherwise, the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.

Please contact support@quirecraft.co.uk first so QuireCraft can try to resolve any concern. UK consumers can also obtain independent advice through the consumer service applicable where they live.
