The short version

You can write and export without an account. Your projects stay on your device unless you choose cloud sync. QuireCraft collects only the account, service, support, community and usage information needed to operate and improve the application. It does not sell personal information or manuscripts.

01

Who is responsible for your information

Raymond Mckaig, trading as QuireCraft, is the controller of personal information handled through the QuireCraft website, application and connected services.

Questions and privacy requests can be sent to support@quirecraft.co.uk.

02

Your writing stays under your control

QuireCraft is local-first. Manuscripts, notes, images and project settings are stored in your browser on your device unless you enable cloud sync. Local information is removed when you delete it in QuireCraft or clear the relevant browser data.

If you use cloud sync, an encrypted connection sends copies of your projects to QuireCraft’s cloud service so they can be available on your other signed-in devices. Cloud sync currently applies to all projects; individual projects cannot be excluded. QuireCraft does not use manuscript content for advertising, sell it or use it to train artificial-intelligence models.

Backups remain important. Browser storage and cloud sync are not a substitute for keeping your own exported backups of irreplaceable work.

Information QuireCraft collects

When you create an account

Your name, email address, authentication details, verification and account status. Passwords are handled by the authentication provider and are not visible to QuireCraft.

When you subscribe

Your plan, subscription status, renewal or end date and identifiers used to connect your QuireCraft account with Stripe. Stripe receives and handles your card and payment details; QuireCraft does not store full card details.

When you use cloud sync

All of your projects, including their content and settings, change information needed to keep copies consistent, and basic sync diagnostics.

When you use community features

Feature requests, comments, votes, display name and images you choose to publish. These contributions are visible to other community users.

When you report a problem

Your name and email address, the report and attachments, application version, affected area and limited technical context needed to investigate it. Signed-out users may return to their reports from the same browser.

When you use the application

Feature and action events, when they occurred and limited context such as the part of QuireCraft used. For signed-in users this may include project, book, chapter or item names, but not manuscript text.

Signed-out usage information

A random installation identifier is saved in browser storage so related activity can be counted across sessions without requiring an account. Signed-out events include the feature used and time of use. Names and free-form content are removed before these events are sent. The identifier does not reveal your name or email address and is not combined with an account when you later sign in.

How and why the information is used

PurposeUK GDPR basis

Where legitimate interests are used, QuireCraft considers the benefit, necessity and effect on users and limits the information collected. You may object to this processing.

QuireCraft does not make decisions about you solely by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects.

05

Who receives information

QuireCraft uses carefully selected service providers only where needed:

  • Supabase for authentication, database storage and connected application services.
  • Stripe for checkout, subscription management and payments.
  • Resend and QuireCraft’s email providers for account and service messages.
  • Google Firebase for hosting the public website and application.

Public community contributions are shared with people who use the community area. Information may also be disclosed when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a future business transfer with appropriate safeguards.

Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where UK data-protection law requires it, QuireCraft relies on an adequacy decision or approved contractual safeguards and supplementary protections.

QuireCraft does not sell or rent personal information.

06

How long information is kept

  • Local projects remain until you delete them or clear the browser’s storage.
  • Synced project data is kept while cloud-sync benefits are active and for up to 90 days after those benefits end, allowing time to resubscribe and retrieve it.
  • Account information is kept while the account is active, with limited records retained afterwards where needed for legal, security, fraud-prevention or support purposes.
  • Payment and transaction records are retained for applicable tax, accounting and legal periods.
  • Problem reports and usage records are kept only as long as reasonably needed to investigate issues, protect the service and understand product use, and are reviewed periodically.
  • Community contributions may be retained or anonymised after an account closes where needed to preserve the meaning of a public discussion.
07

Your choices and rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law gives you rights to access, correct or erase personal information; restrict or object to its use; and receive information you supplied in a portable format. You may also withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.

You can use QuireCraft without an account, export your projects independently, delete local projects and clear the anonymous installation identifier by clearing QuireCraft’s site data in your browser. Clearing browser data can also remove local projects, so export a backup first.

To exercise a right, email support@quirecraft.co.uk. Identity may need to be confirmed before account information is disclosed or changed. There is normally no charge, and a response will normally be provided within one month.

08

Questions and complaints

Please contact support@quirecraft.co.uk first so QuireCraft can try to resolve your concern.

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. Visit ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or telephone 0303 123 1113.
